Flower Tree
In Place Antonin Poncet, next to Place Bellecour, stands a large-format public sculpture: a bouquet of 85 plastic flowers, each the size of a car door, grouped to form a tree almost 6 metres tall. The work, by the Korean artist Jeong Hwa Choi, was created for the 2003 Lyon Contemporary Art Biennial and was permanently installed in its current location in 2007. It is made of stainless steel with a polyester resin coating, which gives it vivid colours and durability. Visitors can approach it, walk around it and even touch it, and it is lit up at night. It stands next to fountains that offer a little coolness in summer. It is a colourful, photogenic landmark in the historic centre of Lyon.
