Volta del Pallol
The Volta del Pallol is a Roman vault that formed part of the west side of the great administrative square of the Provincial Forum of Tàrraco. It is thought to have been a long gallery behind the portico that supported a second floor. Over the centuries its use changed: from 1462 it served as a church, then as a grain store, which is what "pallol" means and gave the square its name, later as a woodshed and a municipal depot. On the inner façade a door and a rose window of medieval date survive, earlier than the 15th century. Today it is municipally owned and houses the model of 2nd-century AD Tàrraco, as well as the video-mapping projection "Mapping Tàrraco", designed to be seen before touring the city. It is on the Plaça del Pallol, in the Part Alta, next to the old Audiencia, a few steps from the cathedral.
