Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower is a 204-metre, 50-storey educational skyscraper in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo. Designed by Tange Associates, its cocoon-like shape, with a curved envelope of white aluminium and dark blue glass crossed by a network of white diagonal lines, symbolises the idea of nurturing the students within. It houses three educational institutions: Tokyo Mode Gakuen (fashion), HAL Tokyo (technology and design) and Shuto Ikō (medicine), with capacity for 10,000 students. The building won the Emporis Skyscraper of the Year award in 2008 and has received two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan (2011). It stands two minutes' walk from the west exit of Shinjuku Station, making it an easily accessible landmark for visitors exploring the skyscraper district.
