Arc de Triomf
The Arc de Triomf was built in 1888 as the entrance gateway to the Barcelona Universal Exposition. It was designed by Josep Vilaseca in the Neo-Mudéjar style, with exposed brick, majolica and artificial stone, and stands about thirty metres high. It is where Passeig de Lluís Companys, Passeig de Sant Joan and Ronda de Sant Pere meet, in Ciutat Vella, at the start of the promenade that runs down to the Parc de la Ciutadella. Its reliefs are the work of several sculptors: the main frieze, on the nations' adherence to the exhibition, is by Josep Reynés, and on the reverse appears La Recompensa (The Reward), by Josep Llimona. Twelve winged figures, the Famas (Fames), occupy the corner towers, and the majolica is by Magí Fita.
