Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
Buddhist temple at 288 South Bridge Road, in Chinatown, inaugurated on Vesak Day, 31 May 2007, by President S. R. Nathan. It was built to house the Buddha's tooth relic and combines the Buddhist mandala style with Tang dynasty architecture. The relic is displayed on the fourth floor inside a large golden stupa, and photography is not allowed in that room. There is a museum in the building and, on the roof, a garden with the Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda and a prayer wheel. The temple asks for respectful dress: no bare backs, bare shoulders, shorts or miniskirts. Animals and non-vegetarian food are also not allowed. It is less than five minutes' walk from Chinatown and Telok Ayer MRT stations.
