Ostia Antica
CultureVisit: ~210 min
Archaeological park of ancient Ostia, the Roman port at the mouth of the Tiber, about 25 km from Rome and now 3 km from the sea because of river silting. It flourished in the 2nd century AD with some 50,000 inhabitants. Remains include the Theatre of Agrippa, the forum with Hadrian's Capitolium, the Piazzale delle Corporazioni, the baths, taverns, insulae and 18 mithraea, as well as a possible synagogue, one of the oldest in Europe. You can get there by train from Rome.
