Munt Tower (Munttoren)
CultureVisit: ~15 min
Tower on Muntplein, where the Amstel and the Singel meet, a remnant of the Regulierspoort of the 15th-century wall. After the fire of 1618 it was rebuilt in 1620 with a Renaissance-style spire by Hendrick de Keyser. In the 17th century its guardhouse served as a mint, hence its name. The carillon, by Hemony (1668), chimes every quarter of an hour.
