Food & drinkVisit: ~75 min
Brasserie at 171 boulevard du Montparnasse, at the junction with avenue de l'Observatoire. It was a canteen for poets and painters from the late 19th century and, in the 1920s, for Hemingway, who wrote a good part of 'The Sun Also Rises' here. A small brass plaque marks his usual spot at the bar. It is still open and every year awards the Prix de la Closerie des Lilas, for women writing in French.
