Congregados Church
The Igreja de Santo António dos Congregados stands on Praça de Almeida Garrett, opposite São Bento station. It was built in 1703 on a hermitage of St Anthony dating from 1662 and was part of the convent of the Congregation of the Oratory. In 1932 its facade was covered with azulejo tile panels by Jorge Colaço, the same artist as those at the station opposite, with scenes from the life of St Anthony and Eucharistic symbols. Inside, the main chapel was rebuilt in the 19th century and has mural paintings by Acácio Lino; the stained-glass windows, by Robert Léone, date from 1920. It belongs to the Diocese of Porto and is part of a listed ensemble in the historic centre.
