Daian-ji
Daian-ji is a Buddhist temple in Nara, Japan, which was the country's first official temple, founded in 639. Over its history it moved several times and became one of the Seven Great Temples of Nara. Today the complex is smaller, but it keeps six Nara-period statues designated Important Cultural Properties, including several representations of Kannon and the Four Heavenly Kings. The temple is active and known for its prayers against cancer, with ceremonies such as the Takekuyō in June and the Kōnin-e in January, where bamboo sake is offered to visitors. You can also see the main hall rebuilt in 1922 and the remains of the former pagodas. The place offers an insight into the early history of Buddhism in Japan and its evolution.
