Casa de las Conchas
The Casa de las Conchas is a former urban palace in Gothic and Plateresque style built between 1493 and 1517. Its façade is decorated with more than 300 shells, the symbol of the Order of Santiago and of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, along with blazons and coats of arms. Inside, visitors can admire a courtyard with mixtilinear arches, white Carrara marble columns and a polychrome coffered ceiling with hexagonal and quatrefoil motifs. Also notable are the Gothic window grilles and a three-flight staircase with sculptures of a dog and a lion. The building now houses a public library and was declared a National Monument in 1929.
