Rue Mercière

CultureVisit: ~45 minFree

Rue Mercière is a pedestrian street in the Les Cordeliers district, in Lyon's 2nd arrondissement, linking Place des Jacobins with Place d'Albon. It preserves an important architectural heritage: on the west side are Renaissance-style houses with mullioned windows, and on the east side 19th-century stone buildings. Along the street, plaques mark the site of Étienne Dolet's printing house (16th century), the house of the printer Guillaume de Rouville and the Hôtel Horace Cardon, which mentions the printer Fleury Mesplet. At number 45 there is a traboule that passes through two buildings and has a courtyard and a 17th-century spiral staircase; at number 49 there is another, closed traboule. The southern part of the street has many restaurants, among them many Lyonnais bouchons, and bars, which makes it an area much frequented by visitors. The street is part of the site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
