Wukang Mansion
Wukang Mansion is a historic eight-storey apartment building in Shanghai's former French Concession, designed by the Hungarian-Slovak architect László Hudec and completed in 1924. It is notable for its French Renaissance style and for being the city's oldest apartment building with a gallery. Its floor plan has a wedge shape which, seen from certain angles, resembles a ship and also New York's Flatiron Building. The building occupies an area of 1,580 square metres and originally held 63 apartments, 30 service rooms and three lifts. Over its history it was home to numerous celebrities of Republican-era Chinese cinema, such as Wu Yin, Wang Renmei, Qin Yi, Zhao Dan, Sun Daolin, Wang Wenjuan, Shangguan Yunzhu and the actor and director Zheng Junli. It is protected as a municipal historic building and was restored by the Xuhui district government in 2008. It stands at the southern end of Wukang Road, on the corner with Middle Huaihai Road, at 1836-1858 Middle Huaihai Road.
