Osaka Museum of History
The Osaka Museum of History opened in 2001 in Chūō-ku. Its four exhibition floors trace the city's history from the time of the ancient Naniwa Palace, which stood on the site the museum now occupies. In the basement, original remains of a warehouse, walls and water-supply facilities from that palace are preserved and displayed. The collection, which by 2016 held 138,595 objects, with a further 17,632 on deposit, underpins the historical narrative. The building, designed by César Pelli & Associates and Nihon Sekkei, is linked by an atrium to the NHK Osaka Broadcasting Center.
