Seine
The Seine flows through Paris for thirteen kilometres, dividing the city into two banks and passing iconic sites such as the Île de la Cité and the Île Saint-Louis, where visitors can walk across historic bridges such as the Pont Neuf and the Alexander III Bridge. Along its banks, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site between the Sully Bridge and the Jena Bridge, are monuments visible from the water such as the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais. The banks have evolved from port areas into promenades and leisure spaces, where cyclists, pedestrians and cultural activities are common, especially in areas such as 'Les Berges de Seine'. Visitors can take tourist cruises such as the bateaux-mouches or use the Batobus to travel along the river and take in Parisian architecture from a different perspective. The Seine is also an ecological corridor where birds and fish can be observed, and its surroundings have inspired artists, writers and musicians throughout the history of Paris.
