Lupu Bridge
Lupu Bridge is a through-arch bridge over the Huangpu River connecting the districts of Huangpu and Pudong in Shanghai. Opened on 28 June 2003, it has a total length of 3,900 m including approaches and a main span of 550 m. It was the longest-span arch bridge in the world until 2009 and received the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award in 2008. The bridge carries 6 lanes of the North-South Elevated Road and was the central axis of the 2010 World Expo. It used to offer a tourist attraction called 'Shanghai Climb', allowing visitors to take a lift up and climb 367 steps to a viewing platform at the top of the arch, with panoramic views of the city, but it has been closed to tourists since 3 May 2016. Today, the bridge offers no tourist access and can only be viewed from outside or crossed by vehicle.
