Rashōmon

CultureVisit: ~60 minFree

Today not a single stone of its foundations remains: only a stone pillar marks the spot where it stood, northeast of the crossing of Kujō and Senbon streets, behind a shop and next to a small children's playground, with a wooden sign in Japanese and English explaining its history. The ruined gate was the central setting and gave its title to the story by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and to Akira Kurosawa's 1950 film, and according to legend it was inhabited by the demon Ibaraki Dōji.
