Palazzo Massimo alle Colonne
Palazzo Massimo alle Colonne is a Renaissance palace designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi between 1532 and 1536. Its façade, which curves to follow the remains of the Odeon of Domitian, has a central portico with six Doric columns and combines elegance with severe rustication. Inside, although not normally open to visitors, the ceilings decorated with frescoes by Daniele da Volterra depicting scenes from the life of Fabius Maximus stand out. The palace opens to the public once a year, on 16 March, to commemorate the miracle of Paolo Massimo's brief resurrection in 1583, and allows access to the family chapel on the second floor.
