Berlin Palace
Berlin Palace, also known as the Berliner Schloss, is a large building next to Berlin Cathedral and Museum Island. It was the main residence of the Hohenzollern dynasty from 1443 to 1918 and a notable example of Prussian Baroque architecture. Damaged in the Second World War and demolished in 1950, its exterior was rebuilt from 2013 onwards to house the Humboldt Forum. Visitors can admire the reconstructed Baroque façade, which incorporates original sculptures and stonework, as well as the Schlüterhof courtyard, one of the few original elements to survive. The interior combines Historicist and Modernist elements and houses the Humboldt Forum's collections, featuring art and culture from around the world. Archaeological remains of the original palace can also be seen through an 'archaeological window'. The 60-metre-high dome, erected in 1845, is a distinctive feature of the Berlin skyline.
