Casa Capa
Casa Capa is a listed building in the Reformarchitektur style, built between 1909 and 1910 in the Lindenau district of Leipzig. It is known as the place where the war photographer Robert Capa took the photograph 'The Picture of the Last Man to Die', showing the American soldier Raymond J. Bowman, who was killed there two weeks before the end of the Second World War; the images became internationally famous after being published in Life magazine. Since 1 July 2023, the memorial site has reopened in the former Café Eigler as an exhibition, events and meeting space dedicated to Robert Capa and his partner, the war photographer Gerda Taro. The permanent exhibition is curated by the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig, and CAPA Culture gGmbH is responsible for events, projects and special exhibitions. Outside, a plaque dedicated to Bowman and the street name Bowmanstraße commemorate the events of 18 April 1945.
