Museum of the History of Catalonia
The museum occupies the Palau de Mar, a former port building from 1881 facing the Port Vell, and offers a journey through the history of Catalonia from prehistory to the present day. The permanent exhibition is organised in chronological stages and includes recreations and audiovisual and interactive resources: grind wheat the Iberian way, try on medieval armour, peer onto a Modernista landing, ride a 1920s tram or watch the NO-DO newsreel in a cinema room. Temporary exhibitions are on the first floor, and the museum offers free online audio guides in Catalan, Spanish, English and French. The rooftop gives views of the port, Barceloneta and Montjuïc.
