Whitehall is a broad street in Westminster linking Trafalgar Square with Parliament Square, known for housing numerous government buildings such as the Ministry of Defence, Horse Guards and the Cabinet Office. Along the street, visitors find monuments and statues, most notably the Cenotaph, the UK's principal war memorial. Banqueting House, the only surviving part of the old Palace of Whitehall, is preserved as an example of London's first Renaissance building and is open to the public.
