Rosental
The Rosental is a 118-hectare landscape park in the riverside forest of northern Leipzig. Its current design dates from 1837, when the gardener Rudolph Siebeck transformed it with an irregular network of paths and new plantings. In the north-west stands the Rosental Hill, a 20-metre artificial hill formed from household waste between 1887 and 1896, topped since 1975 by a 20-metre steel viewing platform known as the Wackelturm, which offers panoramic views of the city. The park has the largest expanse of lawn in Leipzig, ideal for sunbathing, and numerous walking paths. On its eastern edge, the zoo showcase lets park visitors observe the African savannah of Leipzig Zoo from selected points. Since 2009, the large meadow has hosted the annual Klassik airleben concerts by the Gewandhaus Orchestra, which draw tens of thousands of listeners.
