La Géode
La Géode is a mirrored, sphere-shaped cinema in the Parc de la Villette, next to the City of Science and Industry. The building, designed by Adrien Fainsilber with engineer Gérard Chamayou, is made up of 6,433 polished stainless-steel triangles forming a 36-metre-diameter geodesic dome. Inside, a 996 m² hemispherical screen allows for two projection formats: 180° across the dome's 27-metre diameter for documentaries, and native 1.9 IMAX format with a 24-metre base for feature films. The auditorium has 278 tilted seats that place the viewer at the centre of the image, with IMAX Laser projection and IMAX 6.0 sound. Its programme includes science and nature documentaries during the day, major IMAX Laser film releases in the evenings and at weekends, and live broadcasts of shows via Pathé Live. After a six-year closure for renovation, it reopened on 18 December 2024.
