The American Cathedral in Paris, formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, is an English-speaking Episcopal church at 23 Avenue George V, in the 8th arrondissement, between the Champs-Élysées and the Seine. The current building was designed by English architect George Edmund Street in the neo-Gothic style; after his death in 1881, his son Arthur E. Street and Arthur Blomfield continued the project, and construction was carried out by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. The nave is vaulted in oak, while the choir and side aisles are vaulted in stone. The church was completed in 1886 and consecrated on Thanksgiving Day, 25 November 1886. The 280-foot (85 m) tower, one of the tallest in Paris, was dedicated on Easter Sunday 1909. The stained-glass windows, designed by James Bell and John Beckham and made between 1883 and 1893, number forty-two and take the words of the Te Deum as their theme. The cathedral hosts a bilingual Montessori school, recovery groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, a weekly series of free Sunday concerts sponsored by Les Arts George V, the Paris Choral Society and other community services. The congregation numbers around four hundred permanent parishioners, plus students, tourists and business travellers. It became a cathedral in 1922 and is the principal church of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. The cathedral appears in the painting Après l'Office à l'Église de la Sainte-Trinité, Noël 1890 by Jean Béraud, whose original is on loan to the Musée Carnavalet.
