At the Palace of Versailles, visitors tour the State Apartments, the private rooms and the apartments of the royal family, restored to show how French monarchs lived during the 17th and 18th centuries. The museum of the history of France, housed in the palace wings, displays an extensive collection of paintings and historical objects arranged in thematic series, including the famous Hall of Battles. In the gardens and park, visitors can explore tree-lined avenues, ponds such as the Grand Canal and the Swiss Ornamental Lake, decorative fountains and sculptures, as well as the smaller palaces of the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon. The grounds also offer musical fountain and musical garden shows, as well as access to the Perfumer's Garden, where visitors discover floral scents and the history of perfume at court.
