Plaza del Castillo
The Plaza del Castillo is a wide pedestrian space of almost 14,000 m² in the centre of Pamplona, arcaded on all sides and with a varied architecture that reflects different eras. In its centre stands an 18-metre-high bandstand, built in 1943, which has become the symbol of the square. On the south side there is a statue dedicated to King Charles III the Noble, and in the northeast stands the historic Hotel La Perla, the oldest in Navarre. The square is landscaped with flowerbeds and plane trees, and you can admire buildings such as the Palace of Navarre, the old Casino and the Goyeneche Palace. The belena of Café Iruña, a dead-end alley, has recently been restored. The square is a social meeting point and a venue for cultural events, and its pedestrianisation has revitalised the area as the heart of the city.
