Grand Mosque of Strasbourg
CultureVisit: ~30 min
A mosque opened in September 2012 next to the Ill, in the Heyritz district, designed by the Italian architect Paolo Portoghesi. It holds about 1,200 worshippers. The dome is clad in copper, like other roofs in the old town, and the walls are Vosges sandstone. The large prayer hall has no columns thanks to cables fixed to the outer pillars, a suspension-bridge technique.
