Irving Plaza
Irving Plaza is a ballroom-style concert venue at 17 Irving Place, next to Union Square, in Manhattan. The building was bought in 1948 by Polish army veterans and converted into a Polish-American community centre; in 1976 the future Pope John Paul II took to its stage. In 1978 it became a rock venue and grew into a key spot for punk and new wave in the United States, hosting performances by The B-52s, Talking Heads and The Ramones. After several changes of era and management, Live Nation renovated it and reopened it in 2021 with capacity for 1,200 people (750 on the floor), improved sightlines, a VIP Lounge (Jocco's Ransom) and artist facilities. The venue has an active programme of rock, punk, indie and pop concerts, with artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Pennywise, Hawthorne Heights and Allison Russell. It has a bar serving beers from local and national breweries, and craft cocktails. It is a completely smoke-free venue, with ADA access, a lift and cashless ticketing.
