Chidori-ga-fuchi moat

CultureVisit: ~60 minFree

Chidori-ga-fuchi moat is part of the setting around the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. It takes its name from its 'chidori' (bird) shape. It was formerly connected to Hanzō moat, but in 1900 (Meiji 33) it was separated by the construction of a road. Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura cherry trees were planted on the banks of Chidori-ga-fuchi and Hanzō moats, which, together with the cherry trees of Chidori-ga-fuchi Park, managed by Chiyoda ward at the top of the bank, make the area one of Tokyo's main cherry-blossom viewing spots. Visitors can walk the area and enjoy the blossom in a historic setting beside the Imperial Palace.
