Auerbachs Keller
Auerbachs Keller is located in the vaults beneath the Mädlerpassage and offers several historic rooms such as the Fasskeller, Lutherzimmer, Goethezimmer and Alt-Leipzig, each decorated with original features and paintings that evoke centuries of local history. In the Großer Keller, visitors can sample classic dishes of Saxon cuisine in a setting steeped in history, while the Mephisto Bar, on the upper floor, invites guests to enjoy coffee, homemade cakes and cocktails. The Goethezimmer pays tribute to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who was a regular visitor and immortalised the place in his work 'Faust'; its walls display original 17th-century documents and paintings recalling the Faust legend and the restaurant's literary connection. Besides its food and drink, visitors can explore an art collection with murals and historical panels, and take guided tours to learn the anecdotes and cultural legacy of this landmark Leipzig venue.
