The Centro de Arte Caja de Burgos, known as the CAB, opened in November 2003 in the upper part of the old town, next to the church of San Esteban, on Calle Saldaña. It was designed by the studio AU Arquitectos and blends into the profile of the castle hillside. It has a semi-sunken base, with a rubble-stone wall housing storerooms, exhibition rooms and a projection room. Above it rise three volumes clad in timber slats that project towards the city like boxes, joined by walkways that offer panoramic views and form the exhibition route itself. It is devoted to contemporary art, with shows by Spanish and international artists that change every few months, as well as workshops and activities for the public. Its holdings come from the Caja de Burgos Collection.
