Church of San Martín de Tours
CultureVisit: ~30 minFree
Romanesque church next to Plaza del Corrillo, in the heart of Salamanca's old town. Inside, the deformations caused by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake are clearly visible: leaning pillars, bowed walls and distorted arches and ribs. The church has a three-nave plan with circular apses and keeps a 16th-century Isabelline choir and a high altarpiece by Joaquín de Churriguera. Outside, the Romanesque Puerta del Obispo stands out, with a polychrome sculpture of St Martin dividing his cloak before a beggar, and the Renaissance Puerta del Mediodía, from 1586.
