Borély Park
Borély Park is a 17-hectare municipal public park in Marseille, listed as a Remarkable Garden of France. It comprises three distinct gardens: a formal French garden in front of the bastide, with two esplanades, one circular and one rectangular basin, and double rows of trees; an English landscape garden surrounding a lake, adorned with statues, a fountain, a waterfall and a courtyard, and including a miniature of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde; and a recently renovated horse-racing track. The other two parts of the garden connect to the sea via a promenade and to the E.M. Heckel Botanical Garden. The park was created in the 17th century and redesigned in the 19th century by the landscape architect Adolphe Alphand.
