Georgios Averof
The Georgios Averof is an armoured cruiser built in Italy and launched in 1910, which served as the flagship of the Greek navy. It is now a floating museum ship moored at the Naval Tradition Park in Palaio Faliro, Athens. Visitors can go aboard and tour its decks, where original spaces are preserved, including the Orthodox chapel dedicated to St Nicholas and the stern balcony with the crest of the Kingdom of Greece. The ship houses exhibitions on its history, including its role in the naval battles of Elli and Lemnos during the Balkan Wars. Free guided tours are offered for schools and on public holidays, and since 2016 it has had an internal lift providing access to most decks for visitors with mobility impairments. The museum is crewed and considered to be in active service by the Greek Navy.
