Augustusplatz
CultureVisit: ~60 minFree
Augustusplatz is a large square in the eastern part of Leipzig's city centre, where major buildings converge, including the Leipzig Opera, the Gewandhaus and the main university buildings, including the City-Hochhaus. The square also features the distinctive glass cylinders of the underground car park and the Bell of Democracy, a public sculpture commemorating the 1989 demonstrations. Augustusplatz functions as a major transport hub, as most of the city's tram lines pass through here in different directions.
