Acropolis Museum
The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum located about 300 metres south of the Acropolis of Athens. It holds more than 4,250 objects from excavations of the site, spanning from the Greek Bronze Age to the Roman and Byzantine periods. The permanent exhibition is organised into five sections: the Gallery of the Acropolis Slopes, with everyday objects such as pottery, jewellery and toys; the Archaic Gallery, with sculptures predating the Persian Wars, such as the Moschophoros and the collection of korai; the Parthenon Gallery, displaying the temple's frieze, metopes and pediments; the Propylaea, Athena Nike and Erechtheion room, with the original caryatids; and the section covering the 5th century BC to the 5th century AD. The building, designed by Bernard Tschumi, stands on pillars that allow the archaeological excavations to be seen through glass floors. The top floor is aligned with the Parthenon, and its glass walls allow the temple to be viewed from inside. The museum also has temporary exhibition halls, a virtual reality room, an art workshop, a restaurant with a terrace, a café and shops.
