Akihabara
LeisureVisit: ~120 min
Tokyo's 'electric town', around the station of the same name. It began after the Second World War as a market for radio parts, became the street of household appliances and computers and, since the 1990s, has been the capital of otaku culture: manga, anime, video games, figures and trading cards in multi-storey buildings covered in signs. Tiny component stalls under the railway tracks, arcades and themed cafés coexist. The main avenue, Chūō-dōri, is closed to traffic on Sunday afternoons.
