The Museu do Centro Científico e Cultural de Macau, in Lisbon, is the main Portuguese museum devoted to Chinese art and artefacts. It brings together more than 3,500 works documenting Sino-Portuguese relations, with pieces ranging from the Neolithic to the 19th century. The visit is organised on two floors: the ground floor, focused on 16th- and 17th-century Macao and the encounter between Portugal and China, with sections such as 'Portugal and China: The Beginnings of an Encounter', 'The Port City', 'The Order of Transfers' and 'Christianity and Culture'; and the first floor, which covers more than 5,000 years of Chinese art history through terracottas, bronzes, stoneware, blue-and-white porcelain, export porcelain, lacquerware, paintings, fans, silverware, costumes and numismatics. Highlights include objects such as a Shang dynasty Jue ritual vessel, a Zhou dynasty dragon sculpture, a Han terracotta horse, Tang camels, a green-glazed incense burner from the Six Dynasties and a famille rose porcelain teapot inspired by a drawing by Nicolas Lancret.
