Headquarters of the National Library on Avenida Rio Branco, opposite Cinelândia. The building, in an eclectic style with neoclassical influence, opened in 1910. The institution grew out of the collection of the Portuguese royal library that João VI brought to Brazil in 1808 and is one of the largest libraries in Latin America. Its monumental facade and the entrance hall with the main staircase stand out.
