Parque da Liberdade
Parque da Liberdade covers a steep hillside in the heart of the town of Sintra, above the Volta do Duche, and its slope allows good views. It has been owned by the municipality of Sintra since 1936. Among its trees are araucarias, chestnuts, cypresses, magnolias and a Himalayan cedar, and a Magnolia liliflora that flowers in February. The route runs along winding paths, with ponds, rocks and plenty of moss. It has a 450-square-metre skating rink, the minimum size required for hockey matches, and a picnic area. From its viewpoints you can see the National Palace, with its two chimneys, and the Castelo dos Mouros high above, and the path below connects in a few minutes with the Fonte Mourisca and the Volta do Duche. The address is Volta do Duche, 60, and entry is free.
