Church of El Salvador and Santo Domingo de Silos (La Compañía)
The church, known as La Compañía, was built by the Jesuits in the 16th century next to the Colegio de Santa Catalina, with the support of Catalina Fernández de Córdoba, Marchioness of Priego. Both were conceived as a single complex in Plaza de la Compañía. Work on the church took place around 1564-1588 and it was blessed in 1589; it is attributed to Hernán Ruiz II, although it is also linked to Bartolomé de Bustamante. It is Mannerist, with a Latin cross plan, coffered vaults and a dome over the crossing. The portal, Mannerist and the work of Francisco de Villalpando, is topped by the Bourbon coat of arms. A storm brought down the tower in 1589 and the present bell tower was built. After the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767, the parishes of El Salvador and Santo Domingo de Silos were merged in 1782 and settled here. Inside are the high altarpiece of 1721-1723, by Teodosio Sánchez de Rueda with sculptures by Pedro Duque Cornejo, and an organ of 1830 by Antonio Otín Calvete.
