CultureVisit: ~90 min
17th-century villa and stroll garden founded by Prince Hachijō Toshihito (1579-1629) and extended by his son Toshitada. It has a pond, artificial hills and four tea houses (Shōkin-tei, Geppa-rō, Shōka-tei and Shōiken), arranged so that each appears suddenly along the route. The architect Bruno Taut praised it in 1934. It can only be visited by prior appointment, on tours run by the Imperial Household Agency.
