Predigerkirche
The Predigerkirche is in the Niederdorf district, next to the Zentralbibliothek. The Dominicans built a Romanesque church here around 1231, as part of their friary; the friary was dissolved in 1524, during the Reformation, and the church was deconsecrated. It was rebuilt in Baroque style between 1609 and 1614 and became a Reformed parish church. The 14th-century Gothic choir now houses the music department of the Zentralbibliothek. Its 96-metre Neo-Gothic tower was built from 1898 to 1900 by Friedrich Wehrli; the small turret on the roof holds a bell from 1451, one of the oldest bells in Zurich still in its original location. In the Baroque nave, the highlights are the pulpit above the baptismal font and the 1970 organ by Kuhn. A 13th-century gravestone, walled up in 1941, was found in the choir. It is one of the four main churches of the old town.
