Kunsthaus Zürich
The Kunsthaus is Zurich's great fine arts museum, beside Heimplatz. It brings together art from the Middle Ages to the present, and its best-known collections are those of Alberto Giacometti, with sculptures, paintings and drawings, and of Edvard Munch, with a large group of paintings by the Norwegian artist. In 2021 the extension designed by David Chipperfield opened, giving more space to contemporary art and housing, among others, the Merzbacher collection of Fauvism and Expressionism, and the Hubert Looser collection of American abstraction. The Impressionists from the Emil Bührle collection, a private loan, are also shown here, with works by Monet, Van Gogh and Bonnard. The museum also holds a collection of Dada objects, the movement born in Zurich in 1916. Outside the galleries, the building has an art garden open all day.
