National Museum Zurich
The Swiss National Museum occupies a historicist building from 1898, by Gustav Gull, next to the main station, extended in 2016 with a new volume. Its permanent route runs from prehistory and Antiquity through the Middle Ages to the 21st century, with a prominent section on Gothic art, chivalry and liturgical wood sculpture, altarpieces and panel painting. It also includes a Collections Gallery with Swiss furniture, an Armoury Tower, a diorama of the Battle of Murten and a Numismatic Cabinet with Swiss coins from the 14th to 16th centuries and medieval pieces. The permanent exhibition 'Ideas of Switzerland' is labelled in Spanish and uses interactive books and an augmented-reality relief of the St Gotthard Pass. It is complemented by temporary exhibitions on current topics and a programme of guided tours and events.
