Utsubo Park

Utsubo Park is a rectangular urban park of 9.7 hectares in the Nishi-ku district, in central Osaka. Its elongated shape is due to the fact that it was built on the site of a former military airfield. The park is divided into two sections by Naniwa-suji street: to the east is the oval rose garden, the oldest in the city, with more than 160 varieties, and to the west the Utsubo Tennis Center, with 16 tennis courts (clay and hard) that occasionally host international tournaments. A small stream runs through the middle of the park and the cherry trees planted throughout the grounds make it a popular hanami spot in spring. In May a rose festival with concerts is held, and from mid-October to November there is an exhibition of flowers and sculptures. Outdoor weddings are sometimes held in the rose garden. The eastern part of the park, near the Kyomachibori district, has numerous cafés and bakeries and has become a fashionable area of the city. Access is free and the park is open 24 hours.
