Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari
The co-cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari is one of the two cathedral seats of the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante and is declared a bien de interés cultural. Its exterior is sober, in late Renaissance style, while the interior surprises with its height: a dome with Roman coffering reaches almost 45 metres. Inside you can see the Communion Chapel, with a Greek cross plan and richly decorated, considered one of the finest examples of high Spanish Baroque, and the Chapel of San Nicolás, with the image of the city's patron saint and the bust-reliquary of Santa Felícitas. It also preserves works such as the altarpiece of the Souls by Nicolás Borrás, the Cristo de la Buena Muerte and a marble and jasper baldachin from 1688. The church hosts the solemn Mass and the procession in honour of San Nicolás every 6 December.
