Parque Mayer
Parque Mayer is a historic theatre and entertainment district in Lisbon, located between the Botanical Gardens and Avenida da Liberdade. It began in 1921 as a summer amusement park, with roller coasters, shooting galleries and shows. Over time it became a centre of revue theatres, at one point having four venues. Today the Teatro Maria Vitória is still in operation, while the modernist-designed Teatro Capitólio reopened in 2016 after a long restoration. The Teatro Variedades has been closed since 1992 and the Teatro ABC was demolished in 2015. The place preserves part of its historic charm and offers a window onto the tradition of Portuguese Revue Theatre.
