Albarracín City Wall
The city walls enclose the whole historic centre of Albarracín, a town at 1,171 m above sea level. Visitors can walk its perimeter and recognise the different building phases: the first 10th-century enclosure around Santa María and the alcázar, the 11th-century extension with the Molina and Agua gates, and the 14th-century works, from which the current stretches of rubble masonry survive, with walls 1.60 m thick and 12 m high, and prismatic towers 16 m tall spaced about 40 m apart. Among the visible features, the Portal de Molina stands out, with two square towers joined by a round arch of large voussoirs; the Portal del Agua, conceived as a half-hidden exit in case of siege, with an ashlar arch on the outside and a segmental one on the inside and a small guardroom above the arch; the Torre del Andador, a former watchtower high on the mountain; and the Torre Blanca, next to the church of Santa María.
